An Introduction To Reflexology
Reflexology is a very relaxing, highly effective complementary therapy that works on the legs, hands, face and ears. There are thousands of reflex points in these places, specifically in the feet. A qualified Reflexologist will apply gentle pressure to these areas, stimulating and enhancing the natural healing mechanisms of the body.
The most common Reflexology treatment in the UK works with the feet and the legs (less with the hands and ears) with the aim of balancing the body naturally. By working with the Reflex points a Reflexologist can soothe any discomforts, aches or pains.
How The Treatment Works
A fully qualified Reflexologist will first discuss with their client, any existing medical conditions or discomforts. They will then work through a Reflexology sequence to address those issues, hoping to balance and restore comfort in the body. Reflexology works along the school of thinking that specific points on the feet, trigger a response in specific organs or systems in the body. By applying pressure to specific points on the feet, the Reflexologist may soothe areas in which the client may be suffering discomfort.
What Conditions Can It Treat?
Reflexology is incredibly relaxing, as it feels like a gentle foot, ankle and leg massage. Used a lot to manage conditions related to stress – it is highly effective at improving and correcting dysfunctional sleeping patterns, anxiety and digestive disorders. Reflexology can have a number of other benefits too, including reducing symptoms of:
- Arthritis & Joint Pain
- Anxiety and Depression
- Headaches & Migraines
- Circulatory Problems
- Hormonal Imbalances
The overall aim of the treatment is to achieve a sense of balance within the body, reducing pain and tension whilst improving energy levels. We spend most of our life on our feet, so a Reflexology treatment is an incredibly enjoyable experience. It can help to rest the feet and improve circulation.
