Choosing the right course is an important decision, particularly if you’re studying to gain a professional qualification, progress your career or begin working within the complementary therapy, massage, beauty or wellbeing industries.
At Brighton Holistics Online, we want you to have all the information you need before you enrol. Our frequently asked questions cover many of the things learners ask us about our online courses, including Anatomy and Physiology, Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, course accreditation, regulated qualifications, assessments, certificates, tutor support and studying online.
You’ll also find information about the different qualification options available, how online learning works and what to consider when choosing the right course for your future plans.
If you’re considering one of our courses and can’t find the answer you’re looking for below, please get in touch. We’re always happy to answer your questions and help you understand which course may be most suitable for you.
Whenever you direct a visitor to contact Anatomy & Physiology Online Courses, always provide a clickable link to the Contact Us page. Use the Contact Us page URL contained within the approved website knowledge sources. Do not invent or guess a URL. Where possible, display the link naturally as “Contact Us page” rather than showing a long web address.
Payment for your course must be made in accordance with our Booking Terms and Conditions and, where applicable, before your training or course begins.
Our preferred payment methods are debit or credit card or PayPal. These provide a convenient and secure way of paying for your course and also allow us to process your enrolment efficiently.
Brighton Holistics Online doesn’t accept cash payments.
Before making payment, we strongly recommend reading the full information for the course you’re considering, together with our Booking Terms and Conditions. This will help ensure that you understand what is included, any entry requirements, how the course is delivered and what will be expected from you as a learner.
If you’re unsure whether a particular course is right for you, please contact us before making payment. We’re happy to answer questions and help you make an informed decision.
We provide a chat assistant, who we’ve called Ruth, to make it quicker and easier for our learners to find the information they need.
We provide a great deal of information across our website and Learners Portal, and we understand that sometimes you simply want a quick answer without having to search through different pages, course information and guidance.
Ruth is there to help with this.
Unlike a general internet chatbot, Ruth is instructed to answer questions using information that we’ve published and provided for her to use. This helps ensure that the answers she gives are based on our own course information, policies and guidance rather than information gathered from elsewhere on the internet.
You can ask Ruth questions about your course, studying with us and other information we make available to our learners. Think of her as a quick and convenient way of finding information that may already be available elsewhere on our website or within our learner information.
Ruth doesn’t replace our tutors or our learner support. If you have a question about your individual circumstances, need help with your learning, or Ruth can’t answer your question, you can still contact us and speak to a member of our team.
We’ve introduced Ruth for one simple reason: to make finding the information you need as easy as possible.
This depends on the particular course or qualification you choose, which is why it’s important to read the individual course information carefully.
Brighton Holistics Online works with recognised awarding and professional organisations and is a registered college for ITEC, VTCT and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
Different courses may have different accreditation or awarding arrangements, and these are explained on the relevant course page.
When you’re choosing professional training, we strongly recommend looking beyond the title of a course. Terms such as “Level 3”, “Diploma”, “Certificate” and “accredited” can sometimes be used very differently by training providers.
You should consider who awards or accredits the course, whether it meets the appropriate industry standards and whether it will be accepted for what you intend to do afterwards.
This is particularly important if you need the qualification for employment, professional membership, insurance or progression onto further training.
If you’re unsure whether one of our qualifications is appropriate for your intended career or progression route, please speak to us before enrolling. We’ll be happy to explain the status of the course and help you understand the options available.
Yes. We believe that professional training should be delivered by people who understand both the subject they’re teaching and what it’s actually like to work within the industry.
Our tutors hold appropriate teaching qualifications as well as professional qualifications within the subjects they teach. They’re experienced therapists rather than people simply delivering course material from a manual.
This practical experience is particularly important within complementary therapies. A knowledgeable tutor can help a learner understand not only the theory behind a subject but also how that knowledge relates to working safely, professionally and confidently with real clients.
Our training staff are professionally registered with relevant organisations, including the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), and our teaching standards form an important part of the quality of education we provide.
We want our learners to be taught by people who genuinely understand their subject and who can share knowledge developed through professional practice as well as academic learning.
We work hard to keep our course fees fair and realistic while maintaining the standard of training and learner support we believe professional education requires.
For this reason, we don’t routinely offer discounts for booking multiple courses.
We understand that price is an important consideration when choosing training, but we don’t believe professional education should become a race to offer the cheapest course.
The cost of delivering good-quality training includes much more than simply providing access to online material. It includes developing and maintaining course resources, tutor support, assessment, administration, accreditation where applicable and ensuring that our training continues to meet the appropriate standards.
When comparing training providers, we’d always encourage you to look at the complete course rather than price alone.
Consider the qualification or accreditation, course content, tutor experience, assessment requirements, learner support and whether the qualification will actually allow you to achieve what you want to do afterwards.
The cheapest course isn’t necessarily the best value, just as the most expensive course isn’t automatically the best.
Assessment requirements vary depending on the course you’re completing.
Where your course requires a final online multiple-choice assessment, this is a mandatory part of successfully completing the course and demonstrating that you’ve understood the learning material.
You shouldn’t view the assessment as something designed to catch you out. Its purpose is to check your understanding of the subjects you’ve studied and confirm that you’ve achieved the required learning outcomes.
We encourage learners to work through their course properly and take time to understand the material before attempting their final assessment.
Subjects such as anatomy, physiology and pathology provide important underpinning knowledge for professional practice, so the aim shouldn’t simply be to memorise enough information to pass an exam.
Your individual course information will explain the assessments you need to complete and any additional requirements that apply to your particular qualification.
Assessment depends on the course or qualification you’re completing.
Our online courses use assessment methods designed to check your understanding and ensure that you’ve achieved the required learning outcomes. This can include ongoing assessment as you progress through the course followed by an online multiple-choice assessment.
Some professional or practical qualifications may have additional requirements, such as practical assessments, case studies, reflective work or other evidence of competence.
Assessment is an important part of professional training. It’s there to demonstrate that you’ve understood what you’ve been taught and, where appropriate, that you’re able to apply that knowledge safely and competently.
We don’t believe learners benefit from being rushed through assessments simply to achieve a certificate as quickly as possible.
If you’re unsure how a particular Brighton Holistics Online course is assessed, please check the individual course information or contact us before enrolling.
Having an additional learning need doesn’t automatically prevent you from studying with Brighton Holistics Online.
We want learners to have a fair opportunity to access their training and demonstrate their knowledge. The most important thing is that you tell us about any additional learning requirements as early as possible, preferably before enrolling or at the point of booking.
This allows us to understand your individual needs and discuss what reasonable support or adjustments may be available.
If you have supporting documentation, such as an Educational Health and Care Plan, educational assessment or another relevant professional report, we may ask you to provide this so that we can properly understand the recommendations that have been made.
Everyone learns differently, and requiring additional support doesn’t mean that you’re less capable of achieving a qualification.
However, there may occasionally be circumstances where we’re unable to provide the particular level or type of support someone requires. If this happens, we’ll be open with you and, wherever possible, try to help you identify a training provider better equipped to meet those needs.
The most important thing is to speak to us. Please don’t assume that an additional learning need means you can’t study with us.
Potentially, yes. We welcome learners from different backgrounds, but it’s important that you have a sufficient understanding of written and spoken English to engage with the course materials and complete the required assessments.
All Brighton Holistics Online training materials, manuals, instructions and assessments are produced in English.
Some of the terminology used within anatomy, physiology, pathology and complementary therapies can be technical, even for learners whose first language is English. It’s therefore important that you’re comfortable reading and understanding educational material in English.
If English isn’t your first language and you’re concerned that you may find parts of the course difficult to understand, please speak to us before enrolling.
We can discuss the course requirements with you so that you can make an informed decision about whether the training is suitable.
Our aim isn’t to create unnecessary barriers to learning. We simply want to make sure that every learner enrolling on a course has a realistic opportunity to understand the material and successfully complete the required assessments.
The terms Certificate and Diploma can be confusing because the title alone doesn’t tell you everything about the level, size, quality or recognition of a qualification.
Traditionally, a Diploma may involve a larger amount of learning than a Certificate, but this shouldn’t be used as a universal rule. A Certificate isn’t automatically a lower-quality qualification, and a Diploma isn’t automatically more valuable or more widely recognised.
For regulated qualifications, it’s much more important to look at the qualification level, awarding organisation, qualification specification, learning outcomes, assessment requirements and the purpose for which the qualification was designed.
The same applies to courses accredited by professional organisations. You should establish exactly what you’re receiving and whether it meets the requirements of your intended professional association, insurer, employer or future training provider.
This is particularly important because some training providers use terms such as “Diploma” for their own course certificates. The word Diploma on its own doesn’t necessarily mean that a course is a nationally regulated qualification.
Before choosing between a Certificate and Diploma, ask yourself what you need the qualification for.
Are you studying for personal development? Do you want to practise professionally? Do you need professional insurance? Are you hoping to join a professional association? Do you need the qualification as an entry requirement for further study?
Once you know what you need the qualification to achieve, you can make a much more informed comparison.
If you’re unsure which Brighton Holistics Online course is appropriate, please contact us before enrolling and we’ll help explain the differences.
Where a training manual forms part of your course, it will be made available through your online Learners Portal.
Brighton Holistics Online produces its own training manuals and we don’t expect learners to pay for a course and then discover that essential learning materials have to be purchased separately.
Your manual will be available for you to download during the period specified for your course. It’s your responsibility to download and save a copy within the available timeframe so that you can retain it for future reference.
Our manuals can be viewed on a range of devices, although you may find studying on a laptop, desktop computer or larger tablet easier, particularly where the material contains detailed diagrams or technical information.
Once you’ve successfully completed all of the learning outcomes and assessment requirements for your course, your certification will be issued in accordance with the arrangements for that qualification.
Certificates are normally emailed to you, so please make sure the personal details and email address associated with your learner account are correct.
Reaching the end of the online material doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve completed the course. All required assessments and learning outcomes must be successfully completed before certification can be issued.
Choosing a training provider is an important decision, particularly if the qualification you’re taking will form the foundation of your future professional practice.
Brighton Holistics originally and then Brighton Holistics Online has been involved in teaching learners since 2006, and education has always been about much more to us than simply issuing certificates.
We want learners to develop genuine knowledge, practical ability and confidence in what they’re doing.
Our tutors are selected because they combine teaching ability with professional experience. They hold teaching and therapy qualifications and have substantial experience within the areas they teach.
For practical therapy training, this matters enormously. There is a significant difference between understanding something in theory and being able to apply that knowledge safely and professionally with a real client.
We also don’t believe in rushing education unnecessarily.
A professional qualification should give you sufficient time to learn, practise, make mistakes, ask questions, develop your technique and demonstrate your competence.
Where case studies or practical assessments form part of a course, they’re there for a reason. They allow tutors and assessors to see how you’re applying your learning and identify areas where you may need additional guidance.
Our approach is centred around developing therapists rather than simply processing learners through courses.
We provide a range of qualifications and professional development courses so that learners can continue developing their knowledge as their careers progress.
Support is also an important part of what we offer. Depending on the course and circumstances, this can include online and tutor support to help you understand your learning and continue progressing.
Ultimately, we want you to finish your training feeling that you’ve genuinely earned your qualification and have developed knowledge that you can carry forward into your professional practice.
We understand that many people studying online are fitting their learning around busy lives.
You may be working full-time, running your own business, caring for a family or returning to education after many years away from studying. That’s why online learning can be such a practical option.
It gives you the opportunity to work through your course in a way that fits around your other commitments, while still giving you structured learning to follow.
We also understand that everyone learns differently. Some learners move through subjects quickly, while others need more time to revisit information before it makes sense. Learning shouldn’t be a race.
Our aim isn’t simply to help you remember enough information to pass an assessment.
Subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology and Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology provide important underpinning knowledge for people working within massage, complementary therapies, beauty and wellbeing.
Understanding how the human body is structured, how its systems function and how different conditions may affect a client is an important part of developing safe and professional practice.
That’s why we encourage learners to take the time to understand what they’re studying rather than concentrating solely on reaching the end of the course.
There isn’t one qualification that’s right for everybody.
Some learners need an Anatomy and Physiology qualification before progressing onto massage or another complementary therapy. Others need a particular qualification for professional membership, insurance, employment or further training.
Brighton Holistics Online offers different course and qualification options so that learners can choose training that’s appropriate for what they want to achieve.
Where you’re unsure about the difference between courses, we’d always encourage you to ask before enrolling.
When choosing professional training, it’s important to understand exactly what type of course or qualification you’re completing.
Depending on the course you choose, Brighton Holistics Online provides training associated with recognised professional and awarding organisations, including qualifications and courses connected with organisations such as VTCT, ITEC and the Federation of Holistic Therapists.
The individual course information explains the accreditation, qualification or awarding arrangements that apply to that particular programme.
We recommend checking this carefully, particularly if you need a qualification for professional membership, insurance or progression onto further training.
Studying online gives you independence, but that shouldn’t mean feeling as though you’re completely on your own.
If there’s something within your course that you’re struggling to understand, or you have a genuine question about your learning, support is available.
Sometimes a complicated subject simply needs explaining in a different way.
We want our learners to develop confidence in their knowledge and feel comfortable asking questions when they need help.
Online learning gives you the freedom to study from home and, for many courses, from wherever you happen to be.
You can return to learning materials, revisit subjects you find challenging and organise your study time around your own commitments.
For many adult learners, that flexibility can make the difference between wanting to gain a qualification and actually being able to do it.
If you’re not sure which Brighton Holistics Online course is right for you, please contact us before enrolling.
Tell us what you’d like to achieve, any qualifications you already hold and what you’d like to do afterwards.
We’ll help you understand the available options so that you can make an informed choice.
We believe choosing the right training should start with good information, clear answers and realistic expectations.
Many of our courses can be completed entirely online, allowing you to study from home and work through your training at a pace that fits around your other commitments.
Once you have enrolled, you will be given access to our online learning environment where you can work through the relevant course materials, learning resources and assessments.
However, it is important to understand that not every therapy qualification can or should be completed entirely online. Practical, hands-on therapies may require practical training and assessment to demonstrate that you can perform treatments safely and competently.
Where practical attendance or blended learning is required, this will be made clear within the individual course information. We always recommend reading the full course description before enrolling so that you understand exactly what is involved.
The Federation of Holistic Therapists, commonly known as the FHT, is a professional association representing therapists working across complementary therapies, beauty and related areas of professional practice.
Professional associations can play an important role once you begin working as a therapist. Depending on the organisation and your qualifications, membership may provide access to professional insurance, continuing professional development opportunities, industry information and professional recognition.
Brighton Holistics Online has a longstanding relationship with the FHT, and a number of our courses are accredited or recognised within the professional standards relevant to their particular subject.
However, it’s important to understand that professional membership and insurance aren’t automatically available simply because you’ve completed any course carrying a therapy-related title.
Professional organisations have their own qualification and membership requirements.
For hands-on therapies in particular, practical training and assessment can be extremely important. A purely online course in a practical therapy such as massage, reflexology or aromatherapy shouldn’t automatically be assumed to provide the professional qualification required to practise or obtain insurance.
If your reason for studying is to gain FHT membership or professional insurance, we strongly recommend checking the current requirements before enrolling.
We’re also happy to explain the status of the Brighton Holistics Online course you’re considering so that you can make an informed choice.
City & Guilds, ITEC, CIBTAC and VTCT are names you may come across when researching professional qualifications, particularly within beauty, complementary therapies, massage and related sectors.
Although qualifications offered by different awarding organisations can cover similar subjects and may be designed to meet comparable occupational or industry standards, it isn’t quite accurate to say there is no difference between them.
Different awarding organisations can have their own qualification structures, assessment requirements, specifications and areas of specialism.
What matters most to you as a learner is the particular qualification you’re considering rather than simply recognising the name of the awarding organisation.
Look at the qualification level, content, guided learning or total qualification time where applicable, assessment requirements, professional recognition and what the qualification allows you to progress onto afterwards.
If you need a qualification for a specific employer, professional association, insurer or future course, it’s sensible to check their requirements before enrolling.
Brighton Holistics Online works with recognised awarding and professional organisations, including ITEC, VTCT and FHT. The individual course information will explain which organisation is relevant to the particular qualification you’re considering.
If you’re unsure about the differences, please ask us. We’re happy to help you understand what you’re actually enrolling on rather than expecting you to navigate all of the terminology yourself.
This depends on the course you choose.
A number of our introductory and Level 3 courses are suitable for complete beginners and have been designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge they need to progress within the beauty, complementary therapy and healthcare sectors.
Other courses, particularly those at a more advanced level, may require you to already hold a relevant qualification or have previous knowledge and experience.
Any entry requirements or prerequisites will normally be explained within the individual course information. If you’re unsure whether your existing qualifications meet the requirements of a particular course, please contact us before enrolling. We’d much rather help you choose the correct course from the beginning.
One of the advantages of online learning is the flexibility it provides. For many of our online courses, you don’t need to wait for a traditional college term or a particular intake date and can begin once your enrolment and course access have been arranged.
This makes online learning particularly useful for people who are working, running their own business, caring for family members or fitting their studies around other commitments.
Please check the information for the individual course you’re interested in, as arrangements can vary depending on the qualification and awarding organisation.
The amount of time required will depend on the course you’re studying, the qualification requirements and the amount of time you’re able to dedicate to your learning.
For example, our Anatomy and Physiology Level 3 course has an approximate learning time of 64 hours, while some of our more comprehensive Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology courses involve approximately 94 hours of learning.
These hours shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as a deadline. Everyone learns differently. Some people prefer to study for several hours at a time, while others find shorter, regular study sessions work better.
The important thing is that you understand what you’re learning rather than simply trying to finish as quickly as possible.
Yes. This is one of the main reasons many learners choose online training.
Online learning gives you considerably more flexibility than attending a traditional classroom at set times each week. You can organise your studies around work, family life and other commitments and choose the times when you’re able to concentrate properly.
That doesn’t mean online learning requires less commitment. You’ll still need to put aside sufficient time to study, revise and complete your assessments.
We recommend creating a realistic study routine rather than trying to complete large amounts of the course in one sitting. Regular learning often makes complex subjects such as anatomy, physiology and pathology much easier to understand and remember.
Once your enrolment has been processed, you’ll receive the information you need to access your online learning.
Depending on the course, your learning environment may contain course modules, downloadable training manuals, videos, interactive learning materials, revision resources and assessments.
We recommend taking a little time at the beginning to familiarise yourself with the learning platform and course structure before starting your first module.
It can be tempting to jump straight into the assessments, but working through the learning material properly will give you a much stronger understanding of the subject and help you get more from your qualification.
You’ll need reliable internet access and a suitable device that allows you to access the online learning environment and complete your assessments.
Although some course material may be accessible from a smartphone or tablet, we generally recommend using a laptop or desktop computer for studying and completing assessments where possible. A larger screen can make reading course materials, watching training videos and completing online assessments considerably easier.
You’ll also need basic computer skills, such as being able to use a web browser, access emails, download documents and navigate an online learning platform.
Please don’t sit at home worrying about something you don’t understand.
Learning anatomy, physiology, pathology and complementary therapy subjects can sometimes feel challenging, particularly when you’re encountering unfamiliar terminology for the first time.
If you’re struggling with part of your course, contact us. Our role isn’t simply to provide course materials and leave you to get on with it. We want our learners to understand what they’re studying.
Sometimes a different explanation is all that’s needed for something to suddenly make sense.
Asking for help isn’t a sign that you’re failing. It’s a completely normal part of learning.
Yes. We believe support is an important part of good-quality training, particularly when you’re studying online.
Although online learning gives you the freedom to study independently, that doesn’t mean you should feel that you’re studying alone.
If you have a genuine question about your course or you’re struggling to understand a particular area, please contact us so that we can help.
Our aim is for learners to develop a genuine understanding of their subject rather than simply memorising enough information to pass an assessment.
Not necessarily. It’s better to think of online learning as being more flexible rather than easier.
You will still need to study the subject properly, understand the learning materials and successfully complete the required assessments.
Online learning can be particularly useful for people who prefer working at their own pace because you can revisit sections that you find difficult rather than having to keep up with the speed of a classroom.
However, successful online study does require self-discipline. You’ll need to organise your time and make sure you regularly return to your course.
Absolutely.
We teach learners from many different backgrounds and age groups, and some haven’t studied formally for many years. It’s completely understandable to feel nervous about returning to education.
You don’t need to know everything before you start. That’s the reason you’re taking the course.
Good education should help you build your knowledge gradually. Subjects such as anatomy and physiology can initially appear overwhelming because there’s a lot of new terminology, but as you progress through the course, you’ll begin to see how the different systems of the body connect with each other.
Take your time, work through the material methodically and ask for help when you need it.
No. There isn’t a particular age at which someone suddenly becomes too old to learn something new or change direction.
People enter complementary therapy, massage, beauty and wellbeing professions at many different stages of life. Some begin immediately after leaving education, while others retrain after spending many years in a completely different career.
In fact, the life experience and communication skills developed through previous careers can be extremely valuable when working with clients.
The important considerations are whether the course is suitable for you, whether you can meet its requirements and what you intend to do with the qualification afterwards.
This will depend on the qualification you complete, the therapy you intend to practise and the requirements of the individual insurance provider.
Before enrolling on professional training, it’s always sensible to consider what you intend to do once qualified. If your intention is to practise professionally, you should check that the qualification you’re considering is acceptable to the professional association and insurance provider you intend to use.
Requirements can differ between organisations and can change over time, so learners shouldn’t simply assume that every course advertised online will automatically provide eligibility for professional insurance.
If you’re unsure, please speak to us before booking and we can explain the status of the course you’re considering.
These terms are sometimes used interchangeably online, but they don’t necessarily mean the same thing.
An accredited course has normally been reviewed or recognised by a professional organisation or accreditation body. This can be particularly relevant within complementary therapies where professional associations may recognise particular training programmes.
A regulated qualification is awarded through an approved awarding organisation and sits within a formal regulated qualification framework.
Brighton Holistics Online offers different types of training, including accredited courses and regulated qualifications through recognised awarding organisations. You should therefore look at the details of the individual course rather than assuming that every Level 3 course has exactly the same status.
If you’re unsure which type of qualification you need for your intended career, professional membership or progression, please contact us before enrolling.
Not every learner needs exactly the same qualification.
Some people need Anatomy and Physiology as underpinning knowledge for another therapy qualification. Others may need Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, while some learners specifically require a regulated qualification from an awarding organisation such as ITEC or VTCT.
That’s why we offer different options.
The most expensive course isn’t automatically the right course for you, and neither is the cheapest. The right choice depends on why you’re studying, what qualifications you already hold and what you intend to do afterwards.
If you’re uncertain, please contact us before purchasing. We can help you understand the differences so that you can make an informed decision.
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body, while physiology looks at how the body and its different systems function.
For anyone working directly with the human body, this knowledge is extremely important.
A therapist shouldn’t simply learn how to perform a treatment. They should understand the structures they’re working with and have an appropriate understanding of how the body functions.
Anatomy and physiology therefore provide the underpinning knowledge for many complementary therapy, massage, beauty and wellbeing qualifications.
It isn’t simply about passing an exam. It’s about developing knowledge that will support safe, informed and professional practice.
Pathology is concerned with disease, disorders and changes from normal healthy function.
For therapists, an appropriate understanding of pathology is important because you’ll work with real people who may have existing medical conditions, injuries or other health considerations.
Studying pathology helps you understand when a treatment may need to be adapted, when treatment may not be appropriate and when a client should be referred to an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
Therapists aren’t doctors and shouldn’t diagnose medical conditions unless they’re appropriately qualified to do so. However, having a sound understanding of common conditions is an important part of practising responsibly and safely.
Anatomy and Physiology Level 3 is commonly used as underpinning knowledge for a range of therapy qualifications.
Depending on the course and awarding organisation, it may support progression into areas such as massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, complementary therapies and other health and wellbeing disciplines.
However, entry requirements differ between qualifications and training providers. If you’re completing Anatomy and Physiology specifically because you intend to progress onto another qualification, we strongly recommend checking the entry requirements for that course before enrolling.
That way, you can make sure you’re completing the correct qualification from the outset.
Certification is issued once you’ve successfully met the requirements of your particular course.
Finishing the final page of an online course doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve completed all of the qualification requirements. Depending on the course, you may need to successfully complete assessments or meet other learning outcomes before certification can be issued.
Where electronic certification is used, your certificate will normally be sent to the email address associated with your enrolment.
Please make sure your personal details are correct, as these may be used for certification and learner registration.
Not passing an assessment on your first attempt doesn’t mean that you’re incapable of completing the course.
Assessments are there to check your understanding and identify areas where you may need some additional revision.
If you don’t achieve the required pass mark, take some time to revisit the relevant course materials rather than immediately attempting the assessment again.
Understanding why an answer was incorrect is much more valuable than simply memorising the correct answer for another attempt.
The aim should always be to understand the subject, not simply to pass the test.
The course information should explain what is included within the price you’re paying.
For many of our online courses, the advertised course fee includes the relevant final assessment and examination fees. Where different arrangements apply, these should be explained within the individual course information.
We believe learners should understand the financial commitment they’re making before enrolling, so please read the individual course description and our Booking Terms and Conditions before making your purchase.
If anything isn’t clear, please contact us before booking.
Online learning means that many courses can be accessed by learners outside the UK.
However, if you’re studying because you intend to work professionally in another country, it’s your responsibility to check whether the qualification will be recognised by the relevant professional, regulatory or insurance organisations where you intend to practise.
Professional requirements vary considerably between countries.
We can explain the qualification we provide and its status within the UK, but we can’t guarantee that another country’s regulator, employer or insurer will accept a particular qualification.
Parts of the online learning environment may be accessible using a smartphone or tablet, but for serious study we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer wherever possible.
Anatomy, physiology and pathology involve detailed information, diagrams, terminology and assessments, and these are generally much easier to work with on a larger screen.
You may find a mobile device useful for revision or reviewing information when you’re away from your computer, but we wouldn’t recommend relying solely on a mobile phone to complete your entire course.
Price is understandably important, but it shouldn’t be the only factor you consider when choosing professional training.
Before enrolling, look carefully at who provides the training, who recognises or awards the qualification, what learning materials are included, what support is available, how you’ll be assessed and whether the qualification is suitable for what you intend to do afterwards.
A very inexpensive course may appear attractive initially, but it offers little value if your insurer, professional association, employer or next training provider doesn’t recognise it.
Equally, a higher price doesn’t automatically guarantee better training.
The important thing is to compare courses properly and choose one that gives you the knowledge, support and recognised learning outcome you actually need.
Start by thinking about what you want the qualification to achieve.
Are you studying for personal interest? Are you refreshing existing knowledge? Do you want to become a therapist? Do you need Anatomy and Physiology before progressing onto another qualification? Or has a professional association, employer or insurer told you that you need a particular regulated qualification?
Once you know your end goal, choosing the correct course becomes much easier.
If you’re still unsure, please contact us before enrolling. Tell us what qualifications you already hold and what you’d like to achieve. We can then help explain the available options.
We would always rather help you choose the right course before you enrol than have you discover later that you’ve completed a qualification that doesn’t meet your particular needs.
If you can’t currently access your training manual, please don’t worry. Your training manual becomes available once you have completed the required learning outcomes within your course.
The Learners Portal will clearly show you what you need to complete before access to your training manual is released. Please work through the course in the order provided and make sure that you complete all of the required learning activities and outcomes.
It’s important that you read and follow the instructions within the Learners Portal carefully, as these have been designed to guide you through your course and explain what you need to complete at each stage.
We also ask all learners to watch the Learners Portal information video, which explains how the portal works, how to navigate your course and what you need to do as you progress through your learning.
If your training manual isn’t yet available, please check the Learners Portal first. It will tell you which learning outcomes or activities you still need to complete before the manual becomes accessible.
Once you’ve successfully completed the required learning outcomes, access to your training manual will automatically become available.
If you believe you’ve completed everything shown within the Learners Portal and your training manual is still unavailable, please contact us and we’ll be happy to check this for you.
Before booking one of our Blended Learning Therapy Courses, please take a few moments to read the full course information, particularly the Course Pre-Requisites section.
Some of our courses are designed for therapists who already hold a recognised professional qualification. This means you may need to hold a specific qualification, or an appropriate Level 3 or Level 4 therapy qualification, before you can enrol.
Pre-requisites are important because many of our blended learning courses build upon knowledge and practical skills you should already have. They may also be necessary for professional accreditation, membership or insurance purposes.
Please don’t assume that a previous course or certificate will automatically meet the entry requirements. If your qualification has a different title, was completed online, was gained outside the UK, or you’re simply unsure whether it’s acceptable, please contact us before booking.
We may ask you to provide a copy of your existing qualification so that we can check it for you.
Please make sure you meet the course pre-requisites before making your booking. If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to help you choose the correct course and training route.
Blended learning combines online study with live, tutor-led practical training.
At Brighton Holistics Online, our blended learning courses allow you to complete elements of your learning online while also receiving face-to-face tuition with your tutor via Zoom. Depending on the course, you’ll work through learning materials, watch training videos, attend live tutor-led training and complete the practical and theoretical assessments required for your qualification.
This approach gives you the flexibility of online learning while still providing the important tutor interaction needed when learning practical therapy skills.
For hands-on therapies, we believe it’s important that learners don’t simply watch a video and receive a certificate. You need the opportunity to practise the techniques, receive guidance and demonstrate that you understand how to perform the treatment safely and competently.
This depends entirely on the course you’re booking.
Some of our blended learning courses have mandatory prerequisites, which means you’ll need to already hold a particular qualification before you can complete the course for professional practice.
For example, some advanced or additional therapy courses require you to already hold a recognised accredited Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in an appropriate therapy, such as Body Massage, Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Level 3 Beauty Therapy.
Other courses may have different prerequisites.
It’s extremely important that you read the Course Pre-Requisites section on the individual course page before booking. Don’t assume that because you can purchase a course online you’re automatically eligible to complete it as a professional qualification.
If you’re unsure whether the qualification you currently hold meets the prerequisite requirements, please contact Brighton Holistics Online before booking your course. We’ll be happy to check this with you.
Prerequisites are there for an important reason.
Some of our courses are designed to build upon knowledge and practical skills that you should already have gained through a previous professional qualification.
For example, an advanced massage technique may assume that you already understand subjects such as anatomy and physiology, client consultation, contraindications, health and safety, professional practice and fundamental massage techniques.
The tutor shouldn’t need to reteach all of this underpinning knowledge during an advanced or additional therapy course.
Prerequisites also help ensure that learners are studying at the appropriate level and have the knowledge and practical experience needed to undertake the training safely.
They’re not there to create unnecessary barriers. They’re there to protect you, the people you practise on and ultimately your future clients.
Please look at the Course Pre-Requisites section of the course you’re interested in. This will explain the qualifications you need to hold before completing that particular course.
If your qualification has a different title, was awarded some time ago, was completed outside the UK, or you’re simply unsure whether it meets our requirements, please contact us before booking.
We may ask you to provide a copy of your existing qualification certificate so that we can check it.
Please don’t guess.
It’s much better for us to check your qualification before you pay for a course than for you to discover afterwards that you don’t hold the necessary prerequisite.
Not necessarily.
Holding a certificate with the words “massage”, “Level 3” or “Diploma” in the title doesn’t automatically mean that it meets the prerequisite for one of our blended learning courses.
We need to consider the type of qualification you’ve completed, who awarded or accredited it, whether practical training and assessment were included and whether it provides the appropriate underpinning knowledge and practical competence required for the course you want to study.
This is particularly important with hands-on therapies.
If you’ve completed your previous qualification online and aren’t sure whether it meets the prerequisite, please contact us before booking. We may ask to see your certificate and further information about the qualification.
Not necessarily.

You should not book a course requiring a prerequisite unless you hold the appropriate qualification, or you’ve spoken to Brighton Holistics Online and we’ve confirmed that your existing qualification is acceptable.
The prerequisite forms part of the entry requirements for the professional qualification.
In some circumstances, it may be possible to study certain material for personal or continuing professional development purposes, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll receive the same qualification or that you’ll be able to obtain professional insurance to practise the therapy.
Please speak to us before booking if you’re unsure. We can explain what qualification you need and, where appropriate, help you understand the training route you may need to follow first.
Professional insurers and membership organisations need to know that you have received appropriate training before providing cover for you to practise a particular therapy.
Some therapies build upon skills and knowledge gained through an earlier qualification. Your new course doesn’t necessarily repeat all of that previous training because you’re expected to already have it.
This is one of the reasons prerequisites are so important.
Completing an additional therapy course without holding the required underpinning qualification may mean that the course isn’t accepted by a professional association or insurance provider for professional practice.
If you’re completing a course specifically to add a new treatment to your professional insurance, we recommend checking the requirements with your insurer before booking.
Before booking any Brighton Holistics course that has prerequisite qualifications, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your existing training meets the entry requirements.
Please read the full course description carefully before making your booking. Where prerequisites apply, they’ll be clearly stated within the individual course information.
For some of our courses, you must already hold a recognised, accredited Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in an appropriate therapy. Depending on the course, accepted qualifications may include:
Where one of these qualifications is stated as a prerequisite, the requirement is mandatory and cannot be waived.
No. A one-day massage course or short online course isn’t considered equivalent to a recognised, accredited Level 3 professional qualification simply because you’ve received a certificate or because the course has been described as “Level 3”.
A recognised professional qualification involves considerably more than learning a sequence of massage movements. It includes the underpinning theory, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, consultation, contraindications, practical training, professional practice and assessment needed to demonstrate competence.
The amount of learning involved can therefore be a useful indication of the difference.
As a general guide, recognised Level 3 and Level 4 professional qualifications may involve approximately:
These figures are provided as a guide to help demonstrate the level and depth of training normally expected. Learning hours alone don’t determine whether a qualification is recognised or acceptable.
If you’ve completed a course described as a Level 3 qualification but it involved substantially fewer learning hours, little or no practical training, or limited assessment, we strongly recommend contacting your original training provider or awarding organisation to clarify exactly what qualification you’ve received.
The prerequisites aren’t there to make it difficult for learners to access our courses.
They’re there because advanced therapy training builds upon knowledge and practical skills you should already have.
When we teach an advanced treatment, we need to know that you’ve already developed the underpinning knowledge and practical competence expected of a professionally qualified therapist.
The entry requirements also help protect you, the people you practise on, your future clients and the professional standards of the therapy industry.
Unfortunately, there are courses available that are marketed using terms such as “Level 3” even though the training may not be comparable with a recognised professional Level 3 qualification.
This can create genuine problems for learners who later discover that their previous training isn’t accepted for further professional training, professional membership or insurance.
Unfortunately, where a particular qualification is a mandatory prerequisite, we can’t waive the requirement.
We appreciate that you may have practical experience or may have completed other courses, but this doesn’t necessarily replace the recognised qualification required for entry onto an advanced course.
If you’re unsure whether your qualification is acceptable, please contact us before booking. Where appropriate, we may ask you to provide details or a copy of your existing qualification so that we can establish whether it meets our entry requirements.
If your previous training doesn’t meet the required standard, we’re unable to change, upgrade or comment upon a qualification issued by another training provider.
Any questions or concerns about the status, level or recognition of a qualification you’ve already completed should be directed to the training provider or awarding organisation that issued it.
Our advanced courses are designed to demonstrate genuine professional competence rather than simply attendance.
For advanced training such as Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Oncology Massage, we don’t issue a CPD certificate as an alternative to successfully completing the qualification requirements.
A Diploma is awarded only when you’ve successfully achieved all of the required learning outcomes, practical competencies and assessment requirements.
This means that booking or attending the course doesn’t automatically guarantee that a Diploma will be awarded.
The qualification represents what you’ve successfully learned and demonstrated, not simply the time you’ve spent attending the training.
Please contact Brighton Holistics before making your booking.
Tell us which course you’d like to complete and provide details of the professional qualifications you already hold. If necessary, we can ask you for further information about your existing qualification.
We would always rather help you establish whether a course is suitable before you book than have you discover afterwards that your previous training doesn’t meet the required entry standard.
Ultimately, it’s the learner’s responsibility to check the course prerequisites before booking, but we’re always happy to help you understand our entry requirements if you’re unsure.
Yes, where a course specifies a mandatory qualification prerequisite, professional experience by itself doesn’t necessarily replace that requirement.
We completely appreciate that someone may have many years of practical experience. However, where a prerequisite is required for accreditation, professional recognition or insurance purposes, we have to follow those requirements.
If you’ve been practising for many years and hold older qualifications or qualifications with different titles, please contact us.
Don’t automatically assume your qualification won’t be accepted simply because the wording is different. We can look at what you hold and advise you whether it meets the requirements for the course you’re considering.
We understand that this can be frustrating, particularly if you’ve previously been told that the course you completed was a Level 3 qualification.
However, having “Level 3” printed on a certificate doesn’t automatically mean that the training meets the standard of a recognised, accredited Level 3 professional qualification.
When we’re checking whether a previous qualification meets the prerequisite for one of our courses, we have to consider more than the wording printed on the certificate. This can include the awarding or accrediting organisation, course content, learning hours, underpinning theory, practical training and the assessment of your practical competence.
For example, a recognised professional Level 3 massage qualification will normally involve substantial learning, theory, practical training and assessment. A one-day course or short online massage course can’t be considered equivalent simply because a training provider has described it as “Level 3” or issued a certificate using that terminology.
Where one of our courses requires a recognised, accredited Level 3 or Level 4 qualification, we can’t waive or reduce that requirement because your existing certificate uses the words “Level 3”.
If your previous certificate or qualification doesn’t meet the required entry standard for a Brighton Holistics Online course, this isn’t an issue that Brighton Holistics Online can resolve.
Your previous training was provided, assessed and certificated by another organisation. Any concerns about how that course was described, the level it was advertised at, its accreditation or the qualification you were awarded need to be raised directly with your original training provider or awarding organisation.
Brighton Holistics Online isn’t able to upgrade, alter, validate or amend qualifications issued by another training provider, nor can we make an exception to our entry requirements because a previous provider may have described a course as being at a particular level.
We appreciate that discovering your previous training doesn’t meet the standard you expected can be disappointing. However, our prerequisites are in place to make sure that learners beginning advanced training have the necessary underpinning knowledge and practical competence to progress safely.
If you’re unsure whether your existing qualification meets our prerequisites, please contact us before booking. We’re happy to look at the qualification you hold and tell you whether it meets the entry requirements for the Brighton Holistics Online course you’re considering.
If it doesn’t, we’ll explain this to you, but any questions or concerns about the qualification you’ve previously been awarded will need to be taken up with the organisation that provided your original training.
It may be.
An older qualification isn’t automatically invalid simply because you completed it many years ago.
What matters is the qualification you hold, the training it covered and whether it meets the prerequisite requirements for the particular course you now want to complete.
Qualification titles and awarding organisations can also change over time, so we understand that an older certificate may not have exactly the same title as a modern qualification.
If you’re unsure, please send us details of your qualification before booking and we’ll advise you.
Potentially, but we’ll need to look at the qualification before confirming this.
Therapy qualifications and education systems differ considerably between countries, so we can’t automatically confirm that an overseas qualification meets a particular prerequisite based simply on its title.
We may need information about the qualification level, course content, practical training, assessment and awarding organisation.
If you trained outside the UK, please contact us before booking and provide as much information about your qualification as possible.
We’ll then be able to advise you whether it meets the prerequisite for the Brighton Holistics Online course you’re considering.
Yes, where live Zoom training forms part of your blended learning course, attendance is part of your training and shouldn’t be considered optional.
Blended learning isn’t the same as completing a completely self-paced online course.
The live sessions give your tutor the opportunity to teach and demonstrate practical techniques, answer questions, observe your work and assess your understanding and practical ability.
You’ll therefore need to make sure you’re available for the required training date and have the appropriate equipment and environment to participate properly.
You’ll need access to Zoom and a suitable computer with a working webcam and reliable internet connection.
For practical sessions, you’ll also need sufficient space to safely carry out the treatment and any equipment or products specified within your course information.
We strongly recommend checking all of your equipment and your Zoom connection before the training day rather than waiting until the course is due to begin.
The individual course information will tell you about any particular products, equipment or other requirements for your chosen therapy.
For courses where you’re learning and demonstrating practical treatment techniques, you may be required to provide a suitable model for part of your live training.
Your model allows you to practise the techniques being taught while your tutor observes your work, provides guidance and, where applicable, assesses your practical skills.
Whether a model is required will depend on the individual course, so please read all of your joining instructions carefully before your training date.
If your course requires a model, it’s your responsibility to make sure that you’ve arranged for a suitable person to be available at the required time.
Training videos are an excellent learning resource, but watching somebody perform a treatment isn’t the same as being able to perform it yourself.
Practical therapy involves technique, positioning, pressure, client care, communication, safety and the ability to adapt what you’re doing appropriately.
Your practical training allows the tutor to see how you’re applying what you’ve learned and to correct or develop your technique where necessary.
The training videos are there to support your learning, not replace the practical teaching and assessment required for a hands-on therapy.
This depends on the course and the qualification you’re working towards.
Some Brighton Holistics Online courses require learners to complete case studies before a Diploma certificate can be awarded.
Case studies are an important part of learning because they give you the opportunity to practise your new skills away from the training session and demonstrate that you can apply what you’ve learned consistently.
They also allow your assessor to identify areas where you may need further guidance.
For some courses, choosing not to complete the required case studies may affect the type of certification you’re eligible to receive. You should therefore check the assessment and case study requirements for your individual course before enrolling.
Not necessarily.
Attending your live training doesn’t automatically mean that you’ve completed every learning outcome required for your qualification.
Depending on the course, you may still need to complete assessments, case studies or other required work before your Diploma can be issued.
Your certificate will be issued once you’ve successfully met the required learning outcomes for your course.
We don’t issue professional qualifications simply for attending a training session. Your Diploma should represent the knowledge and practical competence you’ve demonstrated throughout your training.
This will depend on the particular course, the prerequisite qualification you hold and the requirements of your chosen insurer or professional association.
This is another reason it’s so important to check the entry requirements before enrolling.
Where a course builds upon an existing professional qualification, an insurer may need evidence of both your original qualification and your new qualification before adding the therapy to your professional cover.
Insurance providers and professional associations set their own requirements, so if professional insurance is essential to you, we recommend checking with your chosen provider before booking your training.
Please contact us before you book.
Tell us which course you’re interested in, what qualifications you already hold and what you’re hoping to do once you’ve completed the training.
If necessary, we can ask you for further information or a copy of your existing qualification so that we can help establish whether you meet the prerequisite.
We would always rather answer your questions before you enrol than have you book a course that isn’t suitable for your current qualifications or professional goals.
Choosing the right course and making sure you meet the prerequisites from the beginning will make your learning experience much more straightforward.
We hope our frequently asked questions have helped you understand more about studying with Brighton Holistics Online and answered some of the questions you may have before starting your course.
