Pregnancy is a unique and wonderful time in many women’s lives but can also be incredibly stressful, bringing about dramatic and often unexpected changes to the body and mind.
Some women sail through pregnancy with very few symptoms, but others can find it a daily struggle not only to cope with the physical strain caused by carrying another person, but also with a number of emotional issues such as high anxiety, stress and insomnia.
Massage during pregnancy can be of enormous benefit to an expecting mother, helping to ease the symptoms of:
- Tired muscles
- Headaches and migraines
- Back pain
- Nausea and heartburn
- Swollen feet and hands
- Stretchmarks (particularly with the use of essential oils)
- Stress and anxiety
- Insomnia
As a complementary therapist it is vital to practise safely with this type of client and to fully understand any issues they may be facing. During our one day Pregnancy and Labour Massage Diploma Course we give therapists all of the tools and experience they need to work as safely and confidently as possible with mums-to-be at all stages of pregnancy.
Please note that you cannot offer pregnancy massage in the first trimester as the national occupational standard and the NHS clearly state that massage should not be applied during this time of pregnancy.
