The secret art of inviting happiness

The secret art of inviting happiness, National Stress Awareness Day is a great opportunity to take a moment to think about our wellbeing and find advice or support on managing stress. Most people have some emotional issues or traumas occurring sometime in their life. Whenever an emotional trauma or situation happens it is stored in the nervous system. Though we may think we are over it and not even remember it, the mark or impression could still be there and negatively affect our health and psychology.

During any form of bodywork, it is possible to release these stored issues or traumas. An emotional release may give rise to feelings of anger, grief or another emotion. This release is indicative of a healthful body transformation, where the body clears itself of the negativity previously-stored within.

At Brighton Holistics Online we join in on the conversation of imbalance resultant from stress with Reiki Principality and training. Where the word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Reiki teaches the principles of Dynamic balance and Complementary cycles that are embedded in the symbol of the Yin-Yang, which depicts the two opposite energies form whose interaction with the universe is believed to have emerged. When these opposites are equally present, everything is calm, which is where Reiki balance comes from.

Reiki principality believes that force flows through all of life. It is the produce and source of order and stability. A Reiki practitioner seeks to live in harmony with that force, by leading a balanced life. Reiki thus is a nature-based philosophy, embodying an awareness of nature, balance, cycles and harmonious action. It removes a linear thought as observed by western culture.

The most profound meaning of Reiki is to develop yourself as much as you can, to grow spiritually and finally become at one with the whole. The inner space from which you transmit Reiki energy in a treatment or attunement always encompasses love, compassion and respect for yourself and for the receiver. Healing always happens from the heart, which creates a loving and accepting space that we share with each other. To live these qualities and just ‘be’ is the ultimate significance of Reiki.

The five spiritual principles of Reiki to withhold are:

  • Just for today, I will not worry
  • Just for today, I will not be angry
  • Just for today, I will do my work honestly
  • Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
  • Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
  • Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbour
  • Just for today, I will honour my teachers

Whilst Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

Reiki affects each person differently, but it always acts wherever the receiver needs it most. It works on the levels of mind, body, emotions and spirit, producing a deep cleansing effect. It provides deep relaxation, evoking a sense of peace and wellbeing, Reiki energy is pleasant and holistic, revitalizing body and soul.

What happens in a treatment?

Independent research conducted by Dr Robert Becker and Dr John Zimmerman during the 1980’s investigated what happens whilst people practice ‘energy therapies’ like Reiki. It was discovered that not only do the brainwave patterns of the practitioner and the receiver become synchronised in the ‘Alpha state’ (characteristic of deep relaxation and meditation), but they also pulsate in union with the earth’s magnetic field – known as the Schuman Resonance.

Code of ethics of a Reiki therapist/practitioner

All Reiki therapists/practitioners must follow the Reiki ethical code that has been laid out for them. The Reiki ethical code lays out what the relationship between the practitioner and the client should be. It is a code of conduct that the practitioner should follow at all times. Violating it would amount to breach of trust between the therapist/practitioner and the client.

Self-treatments

It is widely acknowledged in both Eastern and Western healing systems from acupuncture to massage therapist that the practitioner or therapist must achieve a balance within their own Mind, Body and Spirit before they are ready to help others.  Self-treatment is key to the practice of Reiki. Following the First Degree initiation you are asked to give yourself a full self- treatment daily for 21 days. Further education must then proceed herin with a Reiki master/teacher before you are fit to practice administrating Reiki treatments.

Reiki Lineage

Lineage is about keeping the knowledge pure and true to the original teachings. It is essential that the teaching of Reiki and the attunements be held true to the original teachings from the previous Master/Teacher. This does not restrict the practitioner or the student. It only restricts the teacher and only in the way the knowledge is passed on.

Each recipient of the knowledge must make it his or her own but each time one becomes a Teacher there must be a return to original teachings. If this does not happen, then after only a very few generations the knowledge becomes corrupted and lost.

This is also the rationale for the secrecy in most traditions — to protect the knowledge from being misunderstood or misused, rather than maintaining some sort of elitism.

Jon Matson Higgins Principal of Brighton Holistics Online treasures the Reiki Master / Teachers that have come into his life. Being truly blessed by receiving healings and attunements. It is from here he passes on the role of master/teacher with a responsibility to all his students past, present and future.
