An Introduction to Reiki by Brighton Holistics Online

Reiki Second Degree, Brighton Holistics Online , Training Course, Sussex

The beautiful art of Reiki was established by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th Century and has been growing in popularity around the world, ever since.

The word ‘Reiki’ translates literally to ‘life force energy’, the foundation of the practise. The art of reiki is based on improving the flow of life force energy, or ‘chi’ to improve wellbeing and is closely linked with many Japanese and Chinese healing practices.

It is believed that the balance of energy in and around the body is directly linked to our health, emotional wellbeing and character and that Reiki treatment can help to make improvements in all three of these areas.

Who can benefit from reiki?

One of the wonderful things about Reiki is that it can be enjoyed by people who would not usually be able to undergo complementary treatments, such as pregnant women, children and those with certain contraindications. As the treatment is non-invasive, it can be used in place of more traditional ‘hands on’ therapies.

What to expect from a treatment

For a professional Reiki treatment you should expect to arrive in a quiet, comfortable area or treatment room, set up in a way that promotes relaxation.

Qualified practitioners should first guide you through a consultation process, to get to know you, find out about any lifestyle issues or medical problems and to ascertain the best way to treat you. Following this the practitioner will ask you to lie on a massage couch or sit in a comfortable chair. You will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment, which can be reassuring for many people.

The Reiki practitioner will then place their hands on several areas on and around the body, feeling for and promoting life force energy. This should never be inappropriate or intrusive and you should feel relaxed and at ease throughout the process.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Many people have reported wonderful results following Reiki sessions, but the outcome can differ from person to person. Commonly people who have felt that their wellbeing is generally improved, that they have a sense of peacefulness and relaxation following a session or that they feel more grounded and balanced. Reiki can also help many people to experience a deep meditation not possible otherwise in their hectic lifestyles.

Physically many people report not too feel anything except the hands of the practitioner during the treatment. However, others say that a vibration could be felt flowing through the body.
